Are Economic Fears Giving Obama a Clear Lead in the Washington Post- ABC News National Poll?

It seems, due to economic fears that Obama has been givin the first clear lead of the general election campaign over Mccain. The poll finds that Obama now leads Mccain by 52% to 43%. Two weeks ago, after the RNC, the race was essentially even, Mccain, 49%, and Obama, 47%. In comparison, NEITHER KERRY, 2004, OR GORE, 2000, recorded support above 50% in a pre-election poll by ABC News. The survey also found that the strong initial public reaction to Alaskan Gov. Sarah Palin has cooled somewhat. Overall, her unfavorable rating has gone up 10 points in the past two weeks. The survey, conducted Friday through Monday, included telephone interviews with a random national sample of 1,082 adults, including 916 registered voters. Among '; economy voters';, Obama now leads Mccain by nearly 2 to 1. Mccain holds advantages among voters prioritizing a range of concerns that rank lower on the issues list, making it harder for him to find ways to drive the agenda of the campaign into favorable territory. So, are economic fears shifting the election in Obama's favor? Are Economic Fears Giving Obama a Clear Lead in the Washington Post- ABC News National Poll?
Wait until you see the NBC/Wall Street Journal poll later today!

I think deep down even hard core Republicans know that Democrats are more compassionate, which in turn means they won't think only for themselves and their Oil buddies when dealing with the economy.

Someone asked what ';proof'; do you have that Obama is better when it comes to the economy. Let's just say that Democrats seem to hire more intelligent true economist on their staffs, while Republicans tend to hire more party biases financial staffers. Are Economic Fears Giving Obama a Clear Lead in the Washington Post- ABC News National Poll?
Yes, it does seem that the current economic crisis is shifting the polls toward Obama.

That is amusing since Obama supported and voted for the relaxing of the regulations that helped create this mess, and McCain was one of very few in the Congress who stood up against such irresponsible gambling with the assets of America.

We will pay a price if we continue down this path toward easy money and no production while avoiding knowledge, wisdom and personal responsibility.
This week perhaps.

The real question is given the economy, the unpopular war and the unpopular republican pres, why arent the dems running away with this election? There is something very wrong with them.

ADD: YOu people saying the dems will look out for you: dont you realize that there are reps AND dems that are up to their eyeballs in this? You might want to start by taking a look at Chris Dodd. Please quit being so naive.
Laugh of the year - voters seem to be picking the most toxic on economy. Like many others in my bracket, money out of taxable income - into shelters / offshore due to fear of Obama and a probable recession (look what has happened every time capital gains taxes have been increased).
when you look at the ';margin or error'; the candidates are tied. Plus these polls don't look at the electoral college and the fact that people lie to pollsters about who they will vote for (e.g., some won't vote for Barry because he's black but if they tell the pollster, they would be looked as a racist.)
Yes, polls have been showing that in terms of economic issues, voters prefer Barack Obama to John ';I don't understand the economy'; McCain.
It is not just fear anymore. It is Reality. And Obama has the most realistic approach.
They shouldn't be--he wants to spend money as badly as McCain does, and neither of them have any intention of balancing the budget.
It is indeed the economy. When it goes bad, people know it's the Democrats who'll look out for us, rather than be corporate lapdogs.
Everything is important. People are weighing in on everything.
YES, it's been proven the economy was better with democratic presidents.
yes,definitely.
Polls are stupid because they are part of the MEDIA and the MEDIA is just a bunch of liars. If it wasn't for the Media being on Obama's side, he wouldn't have a leg to stand on. The man has no foundation and just tells the public what they want to hear and unfortunately the liberal media will do anything to discredit the conservative opponent. But when it's all said and done in November, We the American public will have our President. You know how can always tell when the MEDIA is lying....When you turn on the TV.
it really doesn't make much sense, considering a couple of things:

1. Obama has no experience to suggest that he can make smart economy decisions.

2. Obama was part of the root cause of what's happening now. I'm referring to some of his 'community organizer' time back working with ACORN. Some of that work included strong promoting (read: lobbying) for more open lending practices in poor and minority areas. Ultimately (along with Democrats in the early 90s) that resulted in banks being pressured to give loans out to anyone even those that they normally wouldn't consider qualifying for paying back the loan. That is the root cause of the situation we're in now. Too years of loans handed out to people who shouldn't have qualified.
I think it has some effect but the real reason is the honeymoon stage of a McCain/Palin campaign or as Palin stated Palin/McCain ticket is over. People are no longer interested in just hearing about the Soccer mom and have become more realistic that if she were the VICE president (not president as many keep implying, Palin included) she wouldn't even have any care for the kids it would go onto her spouse and Nanniies. Would we really allow a major crisis to be put on hold because she had a sick baby. Being a parent is not what makes a person a good candidate. It is a lot more than that. Just because she is a woman doesn't mean we should vote for her either. Being nominated as a woman was a historic event but that is it.
And yet in the most important of polls (the electorial college poll), Obama isn't winning. He is losing and could lose big.

Bummer for Obama. Great for America.
Pretty scary if it is! Can anyone PLEASE tell me what in Obama's background makes people feel he is right for the economy??
