Would the Holy Spirit ever lead someone to do something that contradicted the clear teachings of the Bible?

I had someone tell me that the Holy Spirit showed or told them it was ok for them to be a un-repentant homosexual. Would the Holy Spirit contradict the Bible like that?Would the Holy Spirit ever lead someone to do something that contradicted the clear teachings of the Bible?
No. The Holy Spirit is God, and God cannot contradict Himself.

James 1:13-16 says, ';Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God; for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no man:

but each man is tempted, when he is drawn away by his own lust, and enticed.

Then the lust, when it has conceived, bears sin: and the sin, when it is full grown, brings forth death.';

Also, James 3:14-18 says, ';14 But if ye have bitter jealousy and faction in your heart, glory not and lie not against the truth.

15 This wisdom is not a wisdom that comes down from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish.

16 For where jealousy and faction are, there is confusion and every vile deed.

17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without variance, without hypocrisy.

18 And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace for them that make peace.

Also, do not listen to people who label your question hateful. It is NOT hateful in any way at all. It is not hateful to believe in morals and truth. It is not hateful to disagree with someone else's lifestyle. To call someone hateful because they do not agree with you is not only intolerant, but it is unconstitutional.Would the Holy Spirit ever lead someone to do something that contradicted the clear teachings of the Bible?
Happens all the time my friend.

20,000 Christian denominations testify to that.

Every single one of the Christians answersing ABSOLUTELY NOT disagrees with one another about 3 or more doctrines in the bible, and every one of them feels like they were led to their understanding by the Holy Spirit.

Christians have a false idea about the Holy Spirit. The one referred to as the Holy Spirit is Angel Gabriel, who only follows as instructed by God, the Almighty Creator. He's an angel, not a God or part of God, and doesn't come into the bodies of people. Only demons do this to mislead people.
You may wish to define ';clear teachings'; -Personally I believe in jesus but I find the bible to contradict itself too much in the modern world.

Also, I dont think the holy spirit has personally told anyone to do anything recently...I could be wrong, but thats just my opinion.
Nope.

The Holy Spirit can't go against its own law %26amp; rules. It's not like the rules are only for some people but not for others. Sin is sin and the Holy Spirit is not going to approve of or lead a person into sin.

I don't know what it was (if it even really happened) but it wasn't the Holy Spirit that told this person to do such.
The Bible says that even if an angel from heaven comes to tell us something that does not accord with the gospel, we are not to believe it, and that false gospel is cursed by God (Galatians 1:6-10). The word of God finds us out and one sign that it has done so is if we start contradicting God's commands, trying to turn them around to mean something different - so that we can indulge our own desires. That is why prosperity teaching and the example you give are so pernicious. There have been Christian leaders committing adultery, insisting God approves! To invoke the Holy Spirit's guidance is frighteningly close to committing the unforgivable sin of blasphemy against Him.
Who wants shuck and jive waffles? Ooh I don't I don't!

Negative. If memory serves, this kind of thinking in the very close neighborhood of the Greek word for 'bullshit' in scripture.

Nope, negative. Absolutely not. Off the top of my head, go to Bible Gateway and search for yourself.

One of the things the vast majority of Christians of whatever stripe can actually agree on.

This is one of the ways to test things.

Why would the HOLY spirit tell someone to NOT repent? Holy saying not to turn away from evil? Holy spirit saying to embrace the unholy?

This is kinderChristian type stuff.

Bollocks. I have personally fallen into this type of 'revelation'. I ended up

committing adultery as a result. Another man's wife. Had I studied more and gone to Church I would have had clearer knowledge that I was doing wrong.

Same basic deal. Satan can appear as an Angel of light. I'm sure he has more than enough capability to known the Bible backwards and forwards.

Imagine a lawer who has had all the time in the world to master the law.

anyhoo, out

absolutely not.

it was obviously not the holy spirit leading him

i would recommend you and your friend go to your local church and talk about it to a pastor.

if you guys already go to a church, go to a different one where you don't know anyone who goes there, so that you are not afraid to talk to anyone about it.

god bless,

i pray for the best!
According to the Bible the holy spirit is God's active force. It is said to be a helper that will 'teach', by Jesus at John 14:16, 17, 26. Though personified in the Bible, like wisdom at Luke 7:35, it is not a person. When we look at all scripture's referring to the holy spirit we see it's spoken of as filling people-Luke 1:41. This is the description you'd expect not of a person, but of a powerful force that God Jehovah causes to emanate from himself to accomplish his holy will. In accord with this the holy spirit could only move people to do things in accord with Jehovah's will, not their own.

I hope this answers your questions. You should always go the Bible to answer these things.
That person is an example of a person using religion to promote hate. However, some people truly believe that God or spirits or whatever tell them to do really strange and cruel things, like murder people and such. You should just keep your sights on where you believe God wants you to be, and not be let awry by things like this.
absolutely not! in the Bible in 1Corinthians chapter 5or six it talks about homosexuality being sin,and there are other scriptures that say the same thing.our Holy Spirit convicts us of that sin, thats one of the things Holy Spirit does is convicts us of sin in our lives.
God has given us wisdom, we should use that first.

Didn't Jesus taught us to pray, ';Lead us not into temptation..';?

The Holy Spirit is the Comforter, Teacher, Counselor. In fact, the Holy Spirit has taught them to relinquish themselves from the sinful living but they chose not to listen. Don't use the Holy Spirit as the excuse or scapegoat for sinful living! They will face the consequences in future.

There is no contradiction in the Bible, except only our understanding.
It might be misconstrued, but I don't know the person.

A Christian can be Homosexual. I wouldn't give anyone who said otherwise another second. God raises us. If that person is being raised by God, then I figure God is using that person to catch people in their words. Some people do worse things than homosexuality yet place a burden upon the homosexual. That's actually very common. What sinners do not realize is how guilty we all are. None of us is moral in God's eyes. We might be able to convince another person that we are moral, but God isn't looking for morals, He's looking for trust.

Absolutely not, their is NO way the Holy Spirit would contradict the Word of God which is Jesus himself. Remember the Holy Spirit reveals all truths about God and does not speak on His on own authority but on what He hears from Jesus . ..... (ref John 16:5-15)
Of course not, the Holy Spirit inspired every word in the Bible. Test the spirits to see if they are from God, as the Bible says. God can not and does not and will not ever contradict Himself or His Word.
No, it would NEVER do that, it's from God and so is the Bible, so why would God put something against himself? That person was wrong n the head when they told you that.
being gay is a sin it's just like lust the holy spirit would not say it's ok to be gay if it was like that we would all be gay then but were not are we but who ever told you that is full of it
Absolutely not. But a demon pretending to be the Holy Spirit might try to delude someone that way.
No; not under any circumstance.

There is no disagreement within the triune God.

A house divided cannot stand.
No, the Holy Spirit would definitely not do that.
ABSOLUTELY NOT!
Never.
No the Holy Spirit would not contradict himself.

Your friend is lying to you.
No, because the Holy Spirit is God.
I wasn't aware that the bible was ';clear';...

Worry about your own salvation pal.. :/
That wasn't the holy spirit...
No. God doesn't change.
No, the Holy Spirit is God. God would never say anything like that.
NO. The Holy Spirit will never, ever speak against the Word of God.
NO, plan and simple NO!
The Holy Spirit? Oh, dear God, get off the drugs, and get out of the stupid religion!
